First of all, I am going to start by saying I am not a beauty expert.  The things that are important to me include ease,  affordability and looking good.  I am happy to say that my experience with eSalon's new MatchUp program was all of those three things. Special shout out to husband who definitely helped a lot on this one.

Esalon has two amazing online programs that build off each other.  The first is the color program.  Now, if you are anything like me in the Foreign Service, you DREAD doing any type of hair treatment outside the US.  I went a whole year in Thailand without getting even a trim due to fear.  Needless to say, my hair color has been a disaster for the past two months. But eSalon made everything so easy.

My Hair color program asks you a series of questions about your hair to determine the type, length and color of your hair.  Then they ask more questions about the product you use and is currently in your hair all to get you to your exact desired color.  I even tried to opt out of the "send us your picture" section of the profile but ended up getting persuaded when it was explained they use it all to determine whats right for you.  In the end, I landed on "Darkest Brown Matte Ash" with "WD-02-10V."  A single order of hair color costs $24.95 and a subscription for every 10 weeks is $19.95.  They also offer products for just your roots or to cover grays.

I have to admit when the box arrived (see above) I was slightly intimidated.  It was a lot of bottles and a lot of stuff, but the directions were clear and easy to follow.  The dying process had two clear steps and the box even came with cream to avoid a mess on your hair line, gloves, a brush and shampoo and conditioner.

The process took a grant total of 25 minutes (and that may have been me being super cautious).  Everything you needed was in the box and it really was easy. If I had to come up with a criticism it would only be that perhaps they could include how much dye you are meant to use per step, I was beyond clueless.

My color came out great!  Though my only caveat is that I did do it today, and as my mom reminded me, color may fade some.

In addition, eSalon has a monthly hair care box that pairs well with your hair color and product.  For $30 a month (which you can always opt out of) you can access a bunch of different high quality hair products.  I tried them and I loved their smell and use. I am still trying them out so I will update in the coming months, but this month I got Perfect Ending Leave in Conditioner for split ends (I live in humid W. Africa), Shining Armor Renewing Treatment Oil and Devoted to Hue Color Enhancing Mask to help the color last. All the products are ESalon brand.

Overall out of 10 on quality (based on today's hair) 10, cost 9, appropriate for me 8 and fun 4 (but dying my hair would normally be a 0).

Seriously, give it a try! If I can do it, anyone can.
