Well this August post is super delayed, however, so was my August BirchBox. Birchbox is a sample box that is $10 per month and allows you to rate the products to earn points. With these points you can purchase larger sizes of the provided products.
I have to admit I am not the biggest BirchBox fan. I know I am on my own on this one as many of our readers and followers have articulated how amazing they find this box.
Personally, I think my main issue is the overabundance of travel size items. Living abroad it gets to be overwhelming toting around from country to country a large box of tiny toiletries. There is an exception to this complaint though, I do go to other parts of Ghana from time to time on work and it is nice to have travel sizes of products I am confident in. This month I got 5 items in the box.
The first was a sample size of R+Co Park Ave Blow Out Balm. I couldn't find it for sale in many places and it does seem to be a Neiman Marcus partner brand which to me means expensive. According to the web this creamy balm should be used before styling for silky, fuzz-free, commercial-worthy strands. I threw it on and it didn't seem any different to the BedHead AfterParty I swear by. In addition, there was a sample size of Dr. Brandt Pores No More Cleanser. This product has great reviews on amazon with several users saying it really reduced pores.
I have to be honest, I can't review perfumes because for the most part I can't wear them. No matter what I try perfumes give me headaches. Even scented candles can do it with perfume scenters. So here's what I got: Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris. In addition, I got Beauty Protector Protect & Oil. The product is meant to give your hair some healthy shine without being oily. I didn't like it. In fact, I don't know why other BirchBoxers got a spray and I didn't. This one just made a mess in my hair and hands.
The last item was my favorite, the cheeky lip. It was most likely because I it was full size (and didn't make a mess). I used it on my lips and liked it, however, I can't picture it as a blush. Cream blush sticks aren't effective for freckled me.
Overall, out of 10 I give this month's delayed Birchbox a 6 on quality, a 10 on cost (its only $10 and you can't beat that), 5 on appropriate for me and a 5 on fun. Perhaps I will motivate myself to use the tiny cleanser today. Perhaps.
